"Quality over quantity. Ever heard of it?" Jason landed on the roof next to Dick, still chewing on the last bite of his chili dog. That thing was beautiful, best moment of the night for sure. He crouched down and tried to follow Dick's line of sight, so he knew what exactly they were watching. "How long's he been in there?"
"About an hour and fifteen. He was meeting with the Penguin, I heard some chatter from the goons he was with when they were outside smoking but that's all." Dick watched, wanting to see Harvey on the move again, curious to see where he'd go now. It wasn't like he could be predicted, Dick would have thought his first stop would be a doctor but here he was, making deals and committing crimes.
"His face looks ... even from a distance, it's bad. I can't imagine the pain."
"You should just go in and ask Ozzy what's up, out of costume. You're right up his alley." The teasing came automatically, mostly Jason was focused on the job. He grimaced, remembering all the footage he had seen of what happened to Harvey Dent. Not a nice thing to go through, nope. "Bruce told me that he doesn't want to get it treated. Bet it's infected. Ew. You think it smells?"
"It's open rotting flesh, of course it does." Dick rolled his eyes at the Oswald comment and pushed it away, not wanting to get into a fight with Jason. Sometimes they got into the most pointless arguments and he wasn't feeling it. Not tonight, not on this job.
"I liked Harvey. I didn't really know him that well but he always seemed nice, he always came to the Wayne charity events and he called me bucko. Which I hated but it was nice." And now he was a killer. "It sucks."
Jason wasn't sure what to do, because he felt bad for Dick, but he didn't know how to be soft. Maybe he had never known, but he was definitely not getting better at it. He reached out, after some hesitation, putting a hand on Dick's shoulder and squeezing a little too hard, never looking at him. Nailed it.
"Y'know what this city does to idealists like that. Bound to happen. He'll have a permanent cell in Arkham soon. Get a revolving door on it like all the others."
"It'd just be nice to have someone good in this city that doesn't just get chewed up and spat out, you know?" He watched the door for the lounge and then realised that there was a hand on his shoulder, squeezing, applying gentle pressure and ... he turned and looked at it, then at Jason and then back at the door, not wanting to make Jason freak out.
Whenever he felt embarrassed, he always rambled twice as hard. "It's probably a good thing he had a split personality and a split injury, then he has a theme. Villains with a theme seem to last longer."
"Uh-huh. They got it all figured out, y'know? There's gotta be a guy that does their costumes. Or a gal, whatevs, I don't know. Wonder if they do image counselling. You go nuts, you get an appointment and they assign you a theme." Honestly, in this city? Wouldn't even surprise him, had some untapped market potential right there, he felt he was on to something. "Does he have a pattern? With the latest series of hits. I know the old man was looking into it."
"He thinks that Two-Face is looking for revenge. He keeps hitting people linked to what happened and some old cases he never managed to get to court because of evidence." Mostly it was old school gangsters, which was why he was kind of curious. Was the meeting with Oswald in good faith or was it going to be an attempted hit.
"And, by the way, they do have like image consultants and people who do that sort of thing. I spoke to the Riddler about it once." Weird conversation but informative.
"Don't speak to a guy like the Riddler, Dick, come on. The last thing that guy needs is an audience. Just knock him out right away, save yourself the headache." Though... "He told you they had image consultants? For real?"
Jason pulled his hand back, finally, laughing as he shook his head. "That's insane. Man, maybe they can hook me up with some business cards."
Hey, heroes deserved nice things too. "You think Harvey's gonna go after the big fish?"
"I was arresting him and waiting on the Bat. It was kind of boring. Besides, out of all the rogues, I think the Riddler is one I don't mind. I don't like him but... I like riddles." Okay, so, yeah - he was a giant nerds and riddles made him excited. He knew how lame that was but they were so fun. He spent a whole hour with the Riddler in chains, discussing riddles, making riddles and how he got his outfit.
It was interesting, no doubt about that. "He wouldn't give me names of consultants, by the way. Just gonna have to take up sewing."
With a smirk, Dick shrugged his shoulders and looked back at the door. "No idea."
"You are such a nerd." He was. "I mean, I'll say, some death trap knowledge did come in handy during pop quizzes at school, can't say that I ever picked up any useful knowledge from Scarecrow or Poison Ivy."
Although. "Not gonna pretend I learned nothing from her either. Crane was truly useless though."
If he had to rank rogues on that metric. "Tiny Tim probably loves the Riddler. Even nerdier than you."
"Crane taught me that you should never trust someone just cause they sound charming. Not that I ever did but God, some people really did." Mostly, he had always known to run away from Jonathan Crane, Batman had trained him well. Nine times out of ten, the advise for Jon was 'run away and don't breath in'.
"Tim does, he likes riddles. I send him weekly brain teasers, keeps him busy and out of trouble." He always wanted to join them but he was still too green to do that.
"I tried to do the same with Damien and he blocked me."
