"Coke's fine." This was weird, seemed like a trap. Because who was this painfully earnest? With him, no less? Maybe he could get it a little, the stuff to girls were on about. He was kind of charming, with that complete lack of poker face and the reassurances. Why would anyone that popular be like this? Made no sense, but here he was, the golden boy. "Maybe I should have voted for you on the student council. Look at you, being poster perfect."
He had voted for common sense instead, still hadn't set in.
"I am?" Harvey looked baffled at the idea of himself being poster perfect and then raised his hair, lazily ruffling his hair so it was out of his face. "I know student council isn't cool but it seemed like fun, you know? You get to hang out after school, learn some stuff and at the end of the year, you go on a field trip so -- it's pretty cool." Besides, he was hoping to use his position on the student council as his other hobby and interest outside of sport for his college application. Never too late to start thinking.
"I hope next time I do get your vote." Harvey grinned and gave Ed a thumbs up. "Maybe I'll reward you with a cookie or something."
"If you'd said cookie right away, maybe I'd have been swayed." Swayed to give a damn. It was fascinating, the kind of charisma someone like Harvey Dent had. Edward thought of himself as not really caring much for anyone at this school, they were all just different flavour of moron, but suddenly he felt as if he wanted to spend more time with this boy. Wanted to impress him, maybe. Be his friend. Dangerous road to go down on, but his smile was genuine suddenly and that felt weird. He wasn't used to smiling for real, at least not smiling at someone. "Bring me a cookie on Friday, I'll remember next year."
"Deal. Cookie and a coke for next year's election. A worthy deal, promise. I'll make sure I'm the president of your dreams, Eddie." The bell went off and everyone around them started to move. Harvey yanked his bag over and opened it up, stuffing his paper inside and getting to his feet. "I'll see you around, Eddie-- Ed ... You got a preference? I like Eddie but don't let me steamroll you, man."
He slung his bag over his shoulder and smiled. Some guys who walked by, they patted his shoulder and told him they'd see him later. Harvey just nodded, more focused on Ed still than anything else.
He noticed it. The fact that Harvey's eyes stayed on him, his focus was on him, even with the guys walking by, talking to him. Huh. Of course he noticed that. He ignored how his mouth felt try though and just shrugged. "Don't really care. Ed, Eddie, Edward. Whatever."
As long as he didn't call him names or anything along the lines of 'Teddy', he honestly didn't give a damn. "See you around."
Damn. He'd pay more attention to him from now on, he already knew that.
