"... Dunno." It was strangely sweet, in a weird way, a way that made Jonathan's stomach drop in a strange way. He didn't like it but he liked it at the same time, it was weird and he hated it. He turned left onto the road and it was definitely clear where they were now. Not long until Edward's place - definitely wanted to be careful people didn't talk, very typical of his sort. He was likely not gay and just playing around, wanting to get a rise, wanting to walk those lines but not wanting to actually be seen or known as being near a faggot. Seemed about typical.
He wanted more from Edward but the cynic in him wasn't willing to believe. "Like I said, you want to avoid talk, you stay away from me. It's the smartest thing to do."
Pulling the car to a stop on the street, Jonathan pulled on the hand break. "I assume you can walk from here?"
"Guess so. If I freckle up more, it's on you." Edward didn't fancy even a short walk, because it was entirely too sunny and hot outside, but he couldn't exactly blame Jonathan for the weather. Couldn't really blame him for anything. Honestly, he was grateful for him more than anything, sitting there with his awkward expression and the guarded attitude of someone who was only expecting to be hurt. So much to this one. Gave him someone to focus on who wasn't miles away back in Gotham City, after having betrayed him and broken his heart.
Definite improvement, on the whole. "I'm not gonna avoid talk, am I? You see me fitting in here, Jonny? Doesn't matter if I stay away or give you a lap dance during history class."
"If you do that, I'll make my crows eat you alive." Rolling his eyes, Jonathan popped the doors open and leaned back, exhaling the fresh air from the window and enjoying the sunshine. Poor city boy, he was gonna be so grateful when winter kicked in. No idea why but clearly that was the climate Edward was used to. "Best get yourself home before you set alight in the sun, don't want to burn."
He didn't answer his questions because he knew the answer, he just didn't want to encourage Edward to get close. He didn't want to let Edward in or get pulled into his charm - he just wanted to survive high school alone. "And stay outta the grass or you'll be bothering them snakes and all. Stay on the road."
"Onto the road I go! May the Lord have mercy on me." Edward made a cross gesture that perhaps betrayed that he hadn't spent much time in his life praying, and that he then just walked down the middle of the road with his arms spread out as if he was being crucified probably didn't make him come across as much less blasphemous. "Burn me up, Jesus!"
At least he hadn't lose his sense of the dramatic.
